Sunrocket is dead, Out of business, below are some usefull information
1) Service seems to be working for many now and if your service is down try
to powercycle your Gizmo. There are other advanced settings you can change to
use specific SIP servers but I dont know where to look for them right now.
1a) If service is down then login to your online Sunrocket portal and try to
forward your calls as that might also work for you. If powercycle does not work
then i'd try this before the Sunrocket ISP cuts its services and their online
website becomes unavailable.
2) Looks like ViaTalk which was the next best option is acting shady by
shortening their 12 free month promo on $199 to 6 months because they think that
we will just to them. I'd suggest that everyone wait this out and see if
Sunrocket's customers are bought by someone espeically if your service is
working somewhat.
3) Also many want to stay away from ViaTalk because you have to prepay again
$200 and also for shipping and "Activation".
4) Other options to go over to other VOIP:
Packet offer for Sunrocket Customers
Vonage offer for Sunrocket Customers
ViaTalk = worst of these guys they not only took away their current offer for
free 12 months but looks like they are more set on gougin current Sunrocket
Customers then helping so i'd away those loosers.
VOICEPulse, MagicJack are also other options
Sunrocket is dead = Out of business, below are some usefull information from DSL
reports and other sources:
1) Save your account information pages. Print/Snapshot as many invoices and
account information pages such as how long you have been pre-paid until.
2) If your service does not work right now you can try forwarding your phone
number to another number as this is working for people.
3) Follow instructions here on how to unlock your gizmo to potentially use for
other VOIP providers:

Moderator Comment: We understand that this isn't a normal hot deal, but feel
that it was important enough to put the thread in a position where it will be
seen by the most users since so many users have done Sunrocket deals through
FatWallet.

FCC Form
From @dslreports
"Everyone should go to the FCC site and register a complaint that SR left all
their customers high and dry. Ispoke to them this morning and they said when
they get enough complaints they would HAVE to act and get somehtning done. I
filled out a Form 475, which I was told was the correct thing to do, also ther
contact at the FCC said this was necessary to require that SR does not get rid
of the phone numbers for their customers.

The juicy bits:
"The customers also could lose money paid in advance to SunRocket, which offered
unlimited telephone service for a year for an upfront payment of $199, said
Martin D. Pichinson, co-founder of Sherwood Partners, which signed a contract on
Tuesday to handle the distribution of assets to creditors.
Mr. Pichinson said the first priority would be to make sure customers were made
whole, by moving their phone lines to other providers. But he said that
negotiations with other providers had not yet borne fruit."

Internet Phone Company Halts Operations

Internet Phone Company Halts Operations
By MATT RICHTEL
SunRocket, an Internet telephone company, has ceased operations and is moving
its customers to one or more other companies, according to a person briefed on
its status.
A recording on SunRocket’s customer service line said the company “is no longer
taking customer service or sales calls.” Executives of SunRocket, which was
founded in 2004 and is based in Vienna, Va., could not be reached for comment.
Telecommunications industry analysts said the development Highlights the
struggles of start-ups trying to offer telephone service over the Internet.
These start-ups face enormous competitive pressure from the biggest players in
the telecommunications industry, both cable and traditional telephone companies.
The cable companies in particular have made a strong push into the telephone
market by offering the service as part of a product bundle with television and
Internet access.
The start-ups, like SunRocket and Vonage, the best known of the group, tend to
offer a single product, and they do not have the same power as the larger
companies to control quality of service because they do not operate their own
telecommunications lines, said Richard Greenfield, a media analyst at Pali
Research in New York.
In April, SunRocket announced that it had reached 200,000 subscribers and said
the milestone was a testament to consumers’ embrace of Internet telephony, which
allows telephone calls to be transmitted as data over the Internet. One of
SunRocket’s main pitches to potential customers was its offer of $199 for a year
of unlimited calling to the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Vonage, which went public last year, was a pioneer in the commercialization of
the technology. But its fortunes have floundered too, along with its stock,
which has been on a steady slide over the last year, closing Wednesday at $2.95.
Alan Bezoza, an analyst at Oppenheimer & Co., said Vonage had continued to add
subscribers, but the cost of attracting them had put the company deep into the
red. He said that in its first quarter this year, Vonage added 166,000
customers, but lost $73 million. The start-ups “are going up against the
marketing muscle of very large companies, like cable and telecom companies,” Mr.
Bezoza said.
Mr. Bezoza said that he believed that stand-alone Internet telephone companies
could wind up as successful niche players in the market, but their investors
would have to be willing to endure a substantial period of losses before they
built enough of a customer base to be profitable.

First, I apologize for a broadcast email to all users since a lot of you are
well aware of the issue currently at hand. I think there are a few instances
that deserve a mass email and at the risk of you losing your home phone service
tonight permanently is a major reason.
In summary, SunRocket has been on its death bed for a few months now and
officially has closed its doors (see links below). Employees from the MO and VA
offices apparently are all without jobs so there isn't anyone to notify you of
the end of service. At risk of you losing you losing dial tone and the ability
to dial 911, I suggest you find an alternative provider.
The most comparable provider is ViaTalk (referral link:
http://www.myreferer.com/mydb/?M=ViaTalk&ID=vtf&L=10) who is currently offering
a 1 year buyout of your existing SunRocket phone service and a $199 year rate
for 2 lines. Another couple alternative are the Gizmo Project
(http://www.gizmoproject.com) and Skype (http://www.Skype.com) which offer by
the minute plans.
Many SunRocket users are currently discussing options, contracts, refunds, etc.
on the site. Feel free to join in the discussion.

I just spoke with the FCC. They are totally useless as of now. They claim no
jurisdiction over VOIP, but mandate that numbers must be active to be ported.
They have had numerous calls from SunRocket customers starting yesterday and can
offer no help. I was told to try to find a new number, even though my company
has had our number for years and it is our main listed number.

Lisa Bickford of Teleblend answers sunrocket customer's questions:
1) Why so little information in your website?
We are working on adding more detailed information regarding the transition and
how you can continue to enjoy your current phone services.
2) Are you providing service to only Sunrocket customers or you are going to
take new customers too?
Because of the overwhelming response to our offer we have decided to transition
as many SunRocket customers as possible now.
Signing up new customers will begin again after August 1, 2007 as we believe the
major transition will be done by then.
3) Have you acquired assets and infrastructure of Sunrocket?
We have an agreement with the Assignee that allows us to solicit and support
former SunRocket customers.
4) Are you actually Sunrocket just with a different name?
No we are not related in anyway to the former SunRocket company. I am not Lisa
Hook in disguise. I’ve never met Lisa Hook and I have no association with Lisa
Hook. My name is Lisa Bickford and has been most of my life after I married. If
you could make sure the bloggers get that, I’d appreciate it.
5) Are you going to use the actual sunrocket network, server and/or technology
just with different name?
Teleblend has an agreement with the Assignee that allows us to solicit and
support former SunRocket customers.
6) Are you going to port our sunrocket numbers, or you will be using same system
and the porting will not be required ?
No porting is required.
7) If you do port our numbers, how long is it going to take?
No porting of numbers is required.
8) What would be the monthly rate after the remainder of the Sunrocket contract
expires?
Teleblend will offer to former SunRocket customers $19.95 base rate per month
after their current term expires provided they sign up for a new one year term.
9) Can I cancel my service any time ?
Anytime during the transition period.
10) Is there is any cancellation charge?
Not during this transition period.
11) What are the other recurring taxes/surcharge and fees in addition to $12.95
monthly charge?
They will be evident in your first months billing. They will include standard
telephone taxes and surcharges.
12) What is the startup cost? Is it really zero?
During this transition period you will not be charged a start up fee. We will
announce startup fees for new customers on or before August 1.
13) If I paid sunrocket $199.99 for 2 years of service, and used only 3 months -
can I keep your service for next 21 months at a $12.95 per month?
If that is the term of your current contract, then yes.
14) Do your require any proof to find out about the remainder contract period
from sunrocket?
Teleblend will not require proof.
15) How can you give us assurance that there will not be a repeat of sunrocket
from teleblend.
Teleblend is committed to providing quality service for its customers now and in
the future.
16) Where can I get more information about Teleblend, like who is financing
them, Names and profiles of CEO, its parent company etc.
Teleblend is a privately owned service business and at present all principles
are focused on creating a seamless transition for each and every SunRocket
customer that would like to land here.
17) Why is the CSR phone number on sunrocket website and teleblend is same?
In order to better assist SunRocket customers with this Transition we are
pointing that number at our call center for support.
18) Do you know the date when all Sunrocket accounts will stop working?
We do not know when they will ultimately shut those numbers that do not
transition to Teleblend down. Our suggestion is that each former SunRocket
customer should transition to Teleblend prior to July 22, 2007 at 12:01 AM.
19) Do you guys have physical access to Sunrocket's infrastructure, office etc?
Teleblend has an agreement with the Assignee to solicit and support former
SunRocket customers.
20) How many employees do you have working in this new venture?
Many, but not enough during this migration. We are working as quickly and
efficiently as possible to answer everyone’s questions. We will post more
information to our website as our marketing and support teams are able to
develop it.
21) I signed up, why did I not receive any confirmation email?
Any former SunRocket customer should receive a confirming email. Our systems are
a bit backlogged at the moment due to the influx of calls, emails, and online
requests. You might check your spam filter as our system does log that a reply
is sent on each signup.
Thank you for your questions. I’m sure all of our new customers will benefit
from this information and we will certainly add it to our online FAQs.
We appreciate the thousands of customers that have responded and transitioned to
Teleblend. We look forward to communicating further with the new Teleblend
customers and the former SunRocket customers.
Lisa Bickford
